Reflecting
Reflecting is an installation that involves tricking the eyes of viewers through the use of an optical illusion to discover the truth of there importance in their excistance in the art work. Reflecting allows audiences to question who is more important: the viewer, or the artwork within the space.
Reflecting involves a surface that is accepted as real, but the surface appears damaged, revealing a different reality beneath it.The screen and crack are made to create a contrast between the virtual reality and the physical structure. The person viewing it is able to see themselves, and question the idea of their identity in the art, becoming part of the artwork. Reflecting opens a window peering into a camera as viewers enter a space, facing a “cracked wall.” The cracked wall texture creates the impression of there being a three dimensional dent, leading to an actual/physical crack or hole through which audiences are visible. Inspiration was drawn from Daniel Arsham's Building Cavity piece where similar ideas of three- dimensionality are explored.
